I am Elisabete, co-founder of Atelier Coquelicot.
I grew up in the north of Portugal, a region where textile craftsmanship is deeply rooted in the local culture. Workshops there are numerous, and for generations, materials, techniques, and textile trades have been a natural part of everyday life.
At a very young age, I developed a true sensitivity for clothing. I loved touching fabrics, observing how they draped, and imagining the work required to transform a simple cloth into a piece one wears with pleasure.
Gradually, I understood that a garment could accompany much more than just a silhouette. It endures through the seasons, holds memories, and eventually tells a bit of the story of the person who wears it.
The idea of one day creating a clothing brand took root quietly. It never left me.
Time seemed to have disappeared
As the seasons passed, something changed.
Collections were arriving ever faster. Clothing seemed to have a shorter and shorter lifespan. Gradually, natural materials gave way to fibers that told fewer stories.
I felt that clothing was slowly losing what made it precious. As if it were no longer designed to accompany a woman, but simply to be replaced.
Luca and I often talked about this evolution.
He observes materials with the eye of an engineer. I look at them with the sensitivity of someone who grew up surrounded by beautiful fabrics.
Yet, we always arrived at the same conclusion.
The most beautiful materials are those that live with us.
Returning to the essentials
Atelier Coquelicot was born from a need: to find a more thoughtful way of creating.
Choosing a material.
Seeking the perfect cut.
Starting over when a detail doesn't feel right.
Taking our time.
Not out of perfectionism.
But because we believe in correctness.
Another way of creating
Very quickly, we understood that a collection does not begin with just an idea.
It often begins with a material.
We like to think that a beautiful fabric already knows what it wants to become.
One just has to listen to it.
Time reveals beautiful materials.
A shared adventure
Atelier Coquelicot is an adventure that we are building together.
Our perspectives are different, yet they complement each other. I bring a sensitivity for materials and silhouettes. Luca brings his engineer’s eye, his experience with materials, and his attention to detail.
It is in this dialogue that our brand takes shape.
What we hope for
Our ambition is simple.
To create clothing that you will still want to wear in several years' time.
I like to imagine a woman opening her wardrobe years later and naturally choosing an Atelier Coquelicot piece that has become one of her favorites. Not because it is new, but because it has become a part of her daily life.
If our creations find that place in someone's life, then we have succeeded.
Clothing that endures through the seasons with those who wear them.
